I’m so excited to meet you!
You deserve to have a salon experience unlike what you’ve had before. Let’s take the pressure and stress out of your first visit.
what “lived in” actually means for you
“Lived in” gets used a lot, so here’s what it really means with me. Your color and cut are made to grow with you, never against you, so there’s no hard regrowth line and no feeling overdue. Instead, your hair stays soft and blended as it grows, looking just as considered four months out as it did the day you left. When you come back in, it’s a refresh you look forward to each and every time.
what lived in looks like for a few of my guests
Every guest's version is a little different. Here's how they wear theirs, each with hair built to fit the life they live.
what your time with me looks like:
-
Your first appointment starts with a real conversation. We'll talk through your hair history, what's frustrated you before, and where you want to go, then build the day's plan around it. I'll make sure the upkeep actually fits your life, so you feel good about your hair all year, not just the day you leave my chair.
At every visit after, we'll do a quick check-in to see how your color wore and talk through anything new you're thinking about.
At subsequent appointments, we’ll have a more condensed, but no less thorough, Re-Connection Consultation to talk through how your color wore. We’ll also talk through any new struggles or changes you’d like!
-
Every service is built around keeping your hair healthy. I work with low-tox, sustainable brands: plant-based color and products made without the usual culprits like ammonia, PPD, formaldehyde, sulfates, silicones, phthalates, and DEA.
-
Want your visit to feel extra special? You can add a little something to any service. Even your shampoo is a moment, with gentle, firm pressure worked around your hairline, temples, and neck to ease the tension away. Self-care matters, and I'm always happy to give you more of it.
-
You'll never have to wonder how to recreate your look at home. Part of my job is setting you up to feel confident between visits, so even though we'll spend plenty of the appointment just chatting, I'll always make time to show you what you need. Whether you want to learn how to curl it, style your new cut, pick the right products, or just shampoo properly, ask away. I'm an open book.
The Hightide Salon & Suites is at 309 West Martin Street in Raleigh. When you arrive, you'll find an iPad at the front desk. Sign in under Katherine Layne, have a seat, and I'll get a text that you're here.
What to know about your first visit to The Hightide Salon!
-
There's metered street parking right next to the salon (2-hour limit). If your appointment runs longer than two hours, start your time at the street terminal, then extend it from your phone in the Passport app. One heads-up: you can't run two sessions on the same method. Parking is free after 6pm on weekdays and all weekend.
You can also use the Nash Lot behind Parkside Restaurant, managed by Secure Parking. Just scan one of the QR codes posted around the lot to pay from your phone.
-
Once you're settled in my chair, you'll get to pick from Hightide's drink menu, alcoholic and non-alcoholic, all on the house. Wifi's complimentary too, whether you want to catch up on work or just unwind on your phone.

Before you go, we'll take a look at everything we did together and book your next visit. I'll send you home with the right products for your hair and your goals
I’ll follow up within a week to make sure you are loving your results and assure that you are taken care of!
